And it takes less than a generation for victims to become victimizers, turning their rage, humiliation and sense of wrong into an excuse to do unto others what has been done unto them. We see that over and over as well.

There is a growing concern that high-skilled immigration programs, particularly H-1B, are not always used as originally intended. Instead of addressing genuine talent shortages, evidence shows that some companies may be using the system to cut labor costs and change workforce structures, especially in technology.

This isn't an argument against legal immigration. It's a call to restore integrity, transparency, and accountability to the system. When policies meant to fill important skill gaps are seen as ways to replace workers or lower wages, they undermine public trust and create ongoing economic and social problems.

The solution is not to shut down these programs but to make targeted reforms. We need to enforce stricter wage parity requirements, focus on truly specialized skill shortages, increase audits of program use, and connect immigration pathways with long-term national workforce development plans.

If we don't address this issue, it could deepen economic anxiety and weaken confidence in institutions and markets. If handled correctly, it can show how global talent mobility and domestic workforce stability can coexist in a balanced and sustainable way.

Brilliant work, Jeremiah! You could substitute Marsh's & my Eastern European Jewish grandparents for the Irish with the same effect. Fear sells & even Emma Lazarus (who wrote the inscription on The Statue of Liberty: "Give me your tired...) was hell-bent as a German Jewish immigrant to keep Jews like my grandparents out of the US.

Same shit from same shitty bigots now- but at least they wear Red MAGATTE hats instead of white hoods- easier to identify these bigoted putzes!

Stay well my old friend!

Peace,

Jeff! So good to hear from you. Many thanks for your response. I'd love to get together again some time but a variety of petty, drag-ass afflictions pretty much keeps me house bound. So I'm gonna keep Substacking & one day finish re-writing my book "How to Write Good." Patty just handed me a tall cold one. Life is good despite it all. My very best to Marshall. You two are the best, and have been that way for a long memorable time. J

Fine piece of work, Jeremiah. You capture examples of actual American history seldom taught or told and clearly connects to contemporary American social/political/economic state.

My Irish great-grandfather Jeremiah Shea somehow managed to escape in 1846-47 and land in America. I grew up learning the roots of the Great Starvation. The British were the epitome of global oligarchy for centuries, as you know.

Now the American version is recycling with updated weapons applied globally. Same fascism but different costumes. Thanks for writing this.
