I read this wayback, J, and it’s still great. And possibly more relevant than ever, because the gullibility you saw in yourself (and felt ashamed of) is so human - the ability to acknowledge mistakes and misperceptions is a wonderful thing, and it gets more wonderful in these times of shrieking certainty. I think if anyone is self-aware at all, they realize when and how their original ideas were wrong.

Many thanks for your as-usual insightful comment Martha. In looking back I've written over the years, the TW stories stand out. That fact had much to do with the hekp & advice I received from you. I always felt confident my efforts would get a thoughtful reading. That confidence is a crucial aspect of the writer-editor relationship; it might even be the most important one. And you are a shining example of what I'm trying to say. Cheers - J

This made me lol (in the modern vernacular)--and a little more to boot

At that time I was not yet a Met fan, but yes, an anti-war fan

And crossovers, as you describe, can be so rich...

I love this story, Jeremiah. There's a lot ot be said for hopeful gullability, particularly when things are as dark as they are now. I'm going to share this with my 19-year-old daughter who is beside herself about what's going on in Israel and Gaza right now.
